For some months, Warsop Parish Council has been raising serious concerns with Nottinghamshire County Council about the condition of roads in our area (potholes, surface conditions, temporary closures etc). We have also been seeking clarification on the situation with the proposed Burns Lane closure.
This has been discussed at numerous public Full Council meetings since January 2026. On each occasion, the Council has acted on residents’ concerns and written formally to Nottinghamshire County Council requesting a meeting to discuss these issues and agree a way forward.
Despite repeated written requests, we have still not received a date for a meeting, or confirmation that the County Council intends to meet with us at all.
At our meeting on 18 May 2026, Councillors agreed that this is no longer acceptable. The Parish Council has therefore resolved to formally initiate Nottinghamshire County Council’s complaints procedure.
We want to be open with residents about why we are taking this step. Highways are not within the Parish Council’s control, they are the responsibility of Nottinghamshire County Council and Via East Midlands. What the Parish Council can do is represent you, press the responsible authority, and hold it to account when it does not respond. That is exactly what we are now doing. We will keep residents updated as the complaint progresses.
If you have specific concerns about a road or pavement, you can also report them directly to Nottinghamshire County Council’s Highways team, the more residents who formally report issues, the stronger the picture becomes. Thank you for your patience. The Parish Council will continue to push for the safe, well-maintained roads our community deserves.
